The Wind
The branches creak and crack
The trunk it bends its back
The leaves in disarray
The bats have lost their way
The possums are perturbed
The hares on high alert
Every furry ear is pinned
But it’s just the wind
The birds fly for cover
The swan left its lover
The lizards dart through grass
The mice take off en masse
The rabbit’s gaze is fixed
He’s bewildered and betwixt
This is the end, he wryly grinned
But it’s just the wind
Bob is discombobulated
Mary’s dread is underrated
Amy’s apprehensive
Penny is pensive
They whimper, “who’s there?”
White-knuckled, white hair, they swear
The atmosphere just dimmed
But it’s just the wind
The trawler bell swings and tolls
The mystery mistral darts through holes
The ropes they squeak and groan
Topping up the eerie tone
Then it spirals round the church spire
The devil laughs and claims the ire
A shiver through those who’ve sinned
But it’s just the wind
