Someone’s Cooking Bacon

Someone’s cooking bacon
Quite near to my front door
Someone’s cooking bacon
Aromas you can’t ignore

Now cornflakes don’t compare
When bacon is your wish
And eggs by the pair
Are a lonely, desolate dish

Sausages are just the wurst
When they’re not what we want most
And I refuse to be coerced
Into settling for toast

Tea, coffee, waffles and jam
To some a breakfast treat
But a couple of sizzling rashers
Consigns them to defeat

I’ve heard it said that porridge
Lends a warmth that often lingers
But a toasted bacon sandwich
Leads to lips licking fingers

Someone’s cooking bacon
To ease hangover pain
It’s magical porcine properties
Will have you feeling right as rain

So if on Sunday you open your eyes
And your taste buds are a-shakin’
Don’t be alarmed you won’t be harmed
It’s smoky charmed and locally farmed
You’ll find resistance has been disarmed
And unless I’m badly mistaken
Even pancakes get second prize
When someone’s cooking bacon
